    Living Water

    “Living Water”

    By Heather Layne

    ©2014HLT All Rights Reserved.

    John 4

She sits at the end of the bar, both hands embrace a drink

It’s 12-o-clock, her usual spot, too tired to think

She’s heard all the rumors, the butt of all their humors

One more night try to satisfy the ache inside

On the other end of the bar on this peculiar night

Sat a man, empty hands, and a smile that lit the night

He walked on over, asked her for some water

To her surprise, there was concern in His eyes

And a love she’d never seen

    {CHORUS}

“I can give you so much more

Got what you’ve been thirsting for

    Give my drink a try

    ‘Cause living water always satisfies

    Living water always satisfies”

He asked, “How long you been here?

    ‘Bout 20 years, I’d guess

Same old spot, different night, your life’s still a mess

    Got five ex-husbands

You’ve loved ‘em by the dozens

And that one you’re with ain’t worth your kiss, ain’t the marrying kind…  “

    {CHORUS}

She thought for just a moment

Got real with all the pain

The emptiness, life’s dead-ends, all the guilt and shame

“Sir, are you saying You’d help someone like me?

See I’ve been hurt, I’ve been burned, need love to set me free!”

    {CHORUS}

She walked out of the bar that night for the very last time

    ‘Cause living water finally satisfied

You don’t know me, don’t you judge me

‘Cause you can’t see inside of me

We all have a story, pain to glory

    We all feel humanity

    (CHORUS)

You came along, singing my song

I’m starting to see a brand new me

    Free from these chains

    And courage to change

Grandma told me in this life is trouble and strife

Don’t let it define you, honey, be true to you

That trouble found me, darkness surrounds me

But your light is calling my name

    Wanted

    “Wanted”

    By Heather Layne

    ©2013HLT All Rights Reserved.

Little girl, she tried so hard but nothing seemed to please

Mom and dad, too young and too tied down it seemed

They’d lock her in her little room at night, go out on the town

Through her tears, she learned to pray, “Lord I lay me down”…

“And God, there’s just one more thing…”

    Am I wanted?  A mistake?

    Some days I feel like a throw-away

Somewhere inside, I try to hide

There’s bound to be a reason I’m alive

    Am I wanted?

Seventeen, her broken heart lay bleeding on the ground

He beat her down, he walked away and never turned around

On that crowded street corner, she didn’t seem to care

Just fell to her knees, prayed right then and there

    Am I wanted?  A mistake?

    Some days I feel like a throw-away

    Somewhere inside, I still hide

There’s bound to be a reason I’m alive

    Am I wanted?

Thirty-three, life sure takes its toll out on the streets

Justice came, a crime she’d tried to bury, still unpaid

They booked her in and locked her in a dingy prison cell

And just like that little girl in that little room, to her knees she fell…

    Am I wanted?  A mistake?

    Some days I feel like a throw-away

    Somewhere inside, I still hide

There’s bound to be a reason I’m alive

    Am I wanted?

She fell asleep and had a dream in that lonely prison cell

Dreamt she tied some sheets and took a leap, bid the world farewell

Then suddenly the sweetest face appeared without a sound…

And those nail-scarred hands so strong and sure

    Gently took her down

    And He said to her…

    You’re wanted, I don’t make mistakes

Accept my love so I can heal every broken place

Reach deep inside, it’s your time to rise

There’s a very good reason you’re still alive

    You’re wanted, you’re wanted, you’re wanted

    "Rise Up"

    Written By Heather Layne

Honey, we’ve been friends for some time

    And you’ve lost your smile

    Honey, who you believing?

Is someone deceiving your dreaming heart?

    {PRE-CHORUS}

    Rise up on your feet

    Time’s up, train’s a-leaving

    {CHORUS}

    Let freedom ring

    It might cost you everything

It’s a dream you were meant to sing

For such a time, come on, come on, rise up

Opinions, good intentions can tear your heart and paralyze

There’s heaven in your soul and all you know is you need to fly

    {PRE-CHORUS}   {CHORUS}

    {BRIDGE}

Emptiness is driving you, you know

There’s gotta be more, you’re living for

The fields are white and hearts are ripe, you know

Whatcha waiting for?  … There’s so much more!

And oh that face, behind the beauty, she’s so lonely and wants a change

    VERSE 2

She’s just 18, the boys are waiting, and they’re wanting some Amazing Grace

And she’ll go with a smile, but all the while, she’ll be crying inside

    CHORUS 1

Amazing Grace, I hear her praying

For someone to take her place

Amazing Grace, she came from nothing

Just wants to be something, Amazing Grace

Then one night, things got crazy, and she was fighting for her life

In a drunken rage, he tried, but on that night, she killed a man

Now locked away, she cries, she’s so sorry, what a wasted life

Until that day, a man with a Bible told her ‘bout the One who took her place

    CHORUS 2

Amazing Grace, I hear her singing ‘bout the One who took her place

Amazing Grace, she came from nothing, now she’s something

    Amazing Grace

    BRIDGE

Though I never knew her, I’m told she was my mother

For her crime, she had to die, but she was sanctified…

    END

Here I stand, where she lay, thinking ‘bout the One who took my place

Story

"CLOSE YOUR EYES is a song I affectionately call 'God's Lullaby'. Like Zephaniah 3:17 indicates, God 'sings over us'... I wrote this song in less than five minutes, imagining Him singing it to me... I lived many years always looking over my shoulder, never feeling the safety of God's presence in my life. It is exhausting when you live life in a manner where you feel you must sleep with one eye open... When I turned my life over to God, I felt His comfort and presence so deeply that at night I felt I could finally sleep with 'both eyes shut', because I knew God was there, watching over me. And thus, 'Close Your Eyes' was born.

When I was a single mom, this song comforted me many nights, as I lay on my couch, kids asleep... just me and God. As I was trying my best to cooperate with Him to untangle my emotions and life circumstances, He loved me... and still does... deeply, honestly, completely. Thank you, Lord... " - Heather Layne

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life... Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message Bible)

Lyrics

Close your eyes

Let go tonight

I wanna be close to you

I'm yours tonight

Close your eyes

Let me tonight

I just wanna love you

Be your friend tonight

I know you're weary

I know you're lonely

I know you need me

Close your eyes

Breathe deep tonight

I want to heal you

Touch your heart tonight

Close your eyes

Rest your mind tonight

My yoke is easy

My burden is light

Story

"I wrote this song after hearing story after story from girls, young and old, in prisons and rescue missions. It is based on a number of true experiences, pain that was and continues to be lived out. The numbers of women involved in prostitution (at some point in their lives) is staggering. And even if a female has never traveled down that particular path, almost every woman has encountered some sort of shame, scarring her fragile femininity. What do we do with the shame? Let Jesus heal it... We as women are treasured and valued in His eyes, and He wants us to respect ourselves and our fellow sisters in the same way." - Heather Layne For more recovery stories like this one, visit the "Products" page and order Heather's new book, "The Nashville Collection... Story

"I believe God knocks on the door to our hearts many times before we're actually ready to open it wide and let Him in.  We weigh the costs, knowing we'll have to let go of certain habits, indulgences, and people.  READY FOR YOU was written at a time in my life, after I had hit bottom, and I felt ready for whatever God had for me.  I was at the end of "me", and getting past the inner struggle of trying to please people.  Everyday I had a growing desire to please God.  When I looked at the mistakes in my life, I realized they had ultimately brought me to the feet of Jesus.  When I really thought about it, I was amazed that God had traded me... my mistakes and sin for His forgiveness and restoration.  There was nothing and no one in this world offering me a deal like that.  We cannot earn God's forgiveness and grace.  It is free, no strings attached.  Jesus paid a price through His death on the cross that we can never pay.  We're covered... our part is simply to admit our sin and ask for forgiveness.  And if we choose to fully embrace the life of a follower of Christ, we end up the winners in the end.  Yes, choices and sin bring consequences, but somehow, God will cause all things to work for our good.  He never holds our past over our heads... He simply wants our life, affection, and love.  What a deal!" - Heather Layne

Lyrics

Seems like a lifetime

I've been waiting for You

All along I was searching for You

How could all my mistakes lead me to You?

Here I am, ready for life, ready for You

My sweet, sweet One

Ready for love, ready for You

Nothing to offer

Nothing left to prove

This point of desperation

Only You knew

Walls of isolation

Your love broke through

Hands of surrender

Reaching for You
